With or without the Joker, The Batman arrives in movie theaters on March 4, 2022. As for the trailer, that might just be what the Riddler would describe as being wet and red and having us all fooled… The question isn’t if the Joker will arrive, but whether it will be sooner than we think. It could also mean a Gotham where the villains are more likely to work together than take on the Dark Knight one by one. the Joker drops Rotelli, charred to a crisp, into his seat Joker : fanning away the smoke with his hat Antoine got a little 'hot' under the collar. Rather than influencing the tone, this could suggest the vigilante’s close links to the GCPD. the Joker starts to laugh hysterically, as Rotelli catches fire Joker : singing Oh, there'll be a hot time in the old town tonight. While it appears that Reeves’ take is the darkest cinematic Batman yet, it’s said that the director has taken some inspiration from the 1960s Batman TV series. There may be a compelling need for this vital player to appear before too long. With a strangely bright future planned for this Dark Knight, it can’t be long before the Joker makes a deadly impression. Two HBO Max spin-off series ⏤ focusing on the GCPD and Penguin, respectively ⏤ are in development. Signs are good that Robert Pattinson’s turn in the cape and cowl will launch a renewed franchise across multiple channels. But despite that space-bending adventure promising to return Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck to the cowl, all eyes will be on The Batman, with writer and director Matt Reeves’ vision set to define the cinematic future of the Dark Knight for years to come. The Flash will star some familiar Caped Crusaders when the Scarlet Speedster visits multiple Gothams in Nov. We know that The Batman will introduce Robert Pattinson as a young Bruce Wayne ⏤ the first incarnation to arrive in movie theaters in an impending multiverse of Batmen. Information on the film’s plot has been tightly guarded, but a new international trailer (which you can see below) has turned speculation up a notch with just three months to go. After pandemic delays, some impressive trailers have boosted excitement for the film that will kick off a new era for the Dark Knight. The next The Batman thing will be an HBO Max series about Colin Farrell’s Penguin…but c’mon, we all know that sequel is coming sooner or later. What’s dark, mysterious, and only a few months away? It doesn’t take the Riddler to tell us that the answer is The Batman, one of the most anticipated films of 2022. That said, there’s been no official announcement yet. The movie set him up and has taken in over $600 million worldwide it’s all but inevitable now. While Reeves isn’t committing to anything, I’d say the likelihood of Keoghan’s Joker showing up again is around 100%. The final question is whether we’ll see Barry Keoghan’s take on the Joker again in a future movie, or maybe in an HBO Max spinoff show we know they’re making one about Arkham Asylum. Even as a child, people looked at him with horror, and his response was to say, ‘Okay, so a joke was played on me,’ and this was his nihilistic take on the world. What if this guy from birth had this disease and he was cursed? He had this smile that people stared at that was grotesque and terrifying. It’s not about some version where he falls into a vat of chemicals and his face is distorted, or what Nolan did, where there’s some mystery to how he got these scars carved into his face. In one of The Batman ‘s final scenes, a foiled and jailed Riddler (Paul Dano) talks. We never got a clear look at the Joker in the movie, but Reeves was definitely thinking about the look, and how it might motivate the character. “He has a congenital disease where he can’t stop smiling and it’s horrific,” he told Varietyin another interview. Warning: This story contains spoilers for The Batman. We get a few shots of his ragged skin, pockmarked lips, and patchy hair it almost looks like he survived a horrible fire, or maybe got a lobotomy. Physically, this Joker seems almost deformed. There have been a lot of depictions of the Joker over the years, nearly as many as there have been of Batman. He thought about cutting the final scene between Joker and Riddler as well, but left that one in, perhaps as a taste of what’s to come. “It was one of those scenes where, given how complex the narrative was, by taking it out, it kept the story moving in a way it needed to.” Ultimately, that’s why Reeves decided to cut the scene: it hit beats he was hitting elsewhere in the movie. And Joker hits on a lot of points that pay off down the line, including that the Riddler and Batman think alike, and that the Riddler’s quest for vengeance mirror’s Batman’s own a little too closely for comfort. As Reeves acknowledges in an interview with Variety, this scenes gives definitely Manhunter/ Silence of the Lambs vibes, with Batman going to this deranged criminal to get his perspective on a different deranged criminal.
